The Herculaneum Bicentennial Committee will
sponsor a photo contest beginning June 01, 2008
and ending August 15, 2008. The theme for the
photo contest will be - The Spirit of
Herculaneum In Photos. Photos submitted in the
contest must be taken within the City limits of
Herculaneum and must have been taken after
January 2005. There will be three category
themes - "People", "Landscapes/Nature" and
"Daily Life". The photographer may submit a
total of three photographs. The photographs can
all be submitted in one category or one in each
category, but only a total of three photographs
can be submitted. Photos can be mailed or
submitted in person to Herculaneum City Hall.
The photographer must be able to produce the
original negative or CD for the photograph. The
original does not have to be submitted, but must
be able to be obtained. Submitted photos can be
any size, but not to exceed 8" X 10". The photo
must be unmated and unframed. Judging will be
conducted in August and winners will be notified
by the first week of September 2008. Judging
will be based on visual appeal, originality,
technical quality, composition and consistency
with the theme. All photos become the property
of the City of Herculaneum. Winning photos will
be mounted, framed and displayed during the
Bicentennial Celebration in October. Complete

A series of movies will be shown on the
City of Herculaneum's Outdoor Cinema screen
during the summer months. The movies will be
presented at the Herculaneum Fairgrounds on the
following dates. Movie times will vary as the
movies cannot be shown until it is dark enough.
Admission and parking is free. The Bicentennial
Committee will be selling concessions. The
tentative schedule is as follows:
- June 7 - The Bee Movie
- June 21 - Grease
- July 12 - High Noon
- July 26 - Top Gun
- August 9 - Transformers
- August 23 - National Treasure
- September 13 - A Hard Day's Night
- September 27 - Backdraft

As part of the year-long celebration of
Herculaneum's 200th Anniversary of its founding,
the Bicentennial Committee is sponsoring a
Fourth of July Fireworks Display in Herculaneum.
The event will take place on Friday, July 4th at
the Herculaneum Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are
located at the intersection of Joachim Avenue
and Commercial Boulevard (Highway 61-67).
The event will begin at 12:00 noon with food
and drink concessions available. Plans are
underway for other activities to be held during
the day. A St. Louis band, Cruzen, will perform
from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Cruzen is a nine-piece
variety dance band whose music includes pop,
rock, Motown swing, disco and R & B. The Patriot
Singers-American Legion Post 253 and the Chapter
One Spirit of St. Louis Chorus will perform
patriotic music prior to the fireworks display
which begins at approximately 9:30 p.m. The
fireworks will be provided by White Light Pyro
of DeSoto, Missouri.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Bicentennial Committee is seeking
individuals and groups who would like to have a
food or concession booth at the event. Vendor
spaces are available for $35.00 which includes
electricity and water service.
The Bicentennial Committee is also seeking
individuals and/or groups who would like to
perform or sponsor an activity at the event.

The event is sponsored by the Bicentennial
Committee in partnership with the Herculaneum
Amvets Post #42, the Herculaneum Fire Dept,
Herculaneum Today & Tomorrow and the Herculaneum
